Best Student Bank Accounts 2026: Cash Bonuses, Takeaway Vouchers and 0% Overdrafts
Starting university is expensive. So if you’re opening a student bank account anyway, you may as well check what you can get for it.
The latest student bank account offers for 2026 include £100 cash bonuses, Deliveroo and Just Eat vouchers, a free 16-25 Railcard, restaurant discounts, Amazon vouchers and interest-free overdrafts worth thousands of pounds.
The important bit? Don’t choose an account based on the freebie alone.
A £100 student bank account sign-up bonus is useful now, but the right interest-free student overdraft could be worth much more during your time at university.
Here’s what some of the major UK banks are offering students for the 2026/27 academic year, combine them with SUBTV Perks for maximum benefits.
Student bank account offers: 2026 at a glance
The best student bank account offers in 2026 include up to £220 in cash and food vouchers, free Railcards and interest-free overdrafts of more than £3,000. Here’s how the major UK student accounts compare.
Overdrafts are subject to eligibility, status and approval, so the maximum advertised amount is not guaranteed. Offers can also be changed or withdrawn.
Lloyds student account: £100 cash and Deliveroo vouchers
If your Freshers survival strategy involves takeaway, Lloyds is making a strong case for itself.
Students who open or switch to a Lloyds Student Account and pay in at least £500 by 30 October 2026 can receive £100 cash in November.
After that, you can unlock a £20 Deliveroo voucher each month you make at least 20 qualifying debit card transactions between November 2026 and April 2027.
Hit the target every month and that’s another £120 in Deliveroo vouchers, taking the potential incentive to £220.
The account also offers an interest-free arranged overdraft of up to £1,500 in years one to three, increasing to up to £2,000 for longer courses.
Nationwide FlexStudent: £100 cash and £120 Just Eat vouchers
Nationwide is offering another potential £220 student bank account incentive.
New first-year FlexStudent customers can get:
£100 cash
£120 in Just Eat vouchers, issued as £10 a month for 12 months.
To qualify, you need to pay £500 into the account and make five eligible debit card payments by 11 December 2026.
The overdraft grows with you too. Eligible students can apply for up to £1,000 in year one, £2,000 in year two and £3,000 by year three.
There are also no Nationwide fees for using the debit card abroad, which could be useful if a year abroad, Erasmus trip or suspiciously frequent budget holiday is on the cards.
Bank of Scotland: £100 cash and Deliveroo vouchers
Bank of Scotland has a very similar 2026 student offer.
Pay at least £500 into a new Student Account by 30 October 2026 and you can receive £100 cash in November.
Students who qualify for the cash offer can then receive a £20 Deliveroo voucher for each month they complete at least 20 qualifying debit transactions between November and April.
That means another potential £120 in Deliveroo vouchers.
NatWest and RBS: £100 cash plus four years of tastecard
If eating out is more your thing, the NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland student accounts offer a different type of food perk.
Eligible new customers can get £100 cash plus a four-year tastecard.
Tastecard includes discounts across participating restaurants, takeaways, cafés, cinemas and attractions, including offers such as 2-for-1 meals and percentage discounts at participating venues.
The student overdraft is also one of the larger advertised options. You can apply for up to £500 initially, potentially increasing to £2,000 from your second term in first year and £3,250 from year three onwards, subject to approval.
Santander student account: free 16-25 Railcard
No regular £100 joining bonus here, but if you plan to travel between university and home regularly, Santander’s perk could be more useful.
The Santander Edge Student current account includes a free 16-25 Railcard, which can save one third on eligible rail travel across Great Britain.
Its arranged overdraft can increase to £1,500 for years one to three, £1,800 in year four and £2,000 in year five, provided you meet the account requirements.
For students studying away from home, the Railcard is one of those perks that could keep paying for itself every time you book a train.
HSBC student account: up to £3,000 interest-free overdraft
HSBC’s student account is less about a headline takeaway voucher and more about borrowing flexibility.
Eligible students can apply for an interest-free arranged overdraft of up to £1,000 when opening the account, potentially increasing to £2,000 in year two and £3,000 in year three.
If you expect to rely on an overdraft during university, comparing borrowing limits can be more important than comparing Freshers freebies.
Starling student account: £50 Amazon voucher
Digital bank Starling launched its dedicated Student Account in 2026.
New customers can get a £50 Amazon.co.uk gift card, alongside an interest-free overdraft of up to £500 and access to Starling’s saving and money-management tools.
There is also a prize draw giving eligible students the chance to have a year of tuition fees covered.
TSB student account: earn interest on your balance
TSB takes a slightly different approach.
Instead of a headline cash joining bonus, its Student Account currently pays 5% AER variable interest on balances up to £500.
Students can also apply for an interest-free arranged overdraft of up to £500 in the first six months, £1,000 from months seven to nine and £1,500 from month ten, subject to approval.
Barclays student account: focus on the overdraft
Barclays currently focuses on straightforward student banking rather than a large sign-up freebie.
Its Student Additions Account offers an interest-free arranged overdraft that can rise from up to £500 in your first term to £1,000 during year one and £1,500 from year two onwards.
Again, eligibility and lending criteria apply.
So, which student bank account should you choose?
Don’t automatically follow the biggest freebie.
Before opening a student bank account, compare:
The interest-free overdraft. How much can you actually access, and when does the limit increase?
The joining offer. Is it cash, vouchers or a benefit you will genuinely use?
The qualifying rules. Some offers require a £500 deposit, a minimum number of debit card payments or other conditions.
How long the benefit lasts. £100 today is easy to understand. A four-year Railcard or tastecard could potentially save more over time if you use it regularly.
What happens after university. Check how the account changes when you graduate and when any interest-free overdraft begins reducing.
An overdraft is still borrowing, even when it is interest-free. Anything you spend needs to be repaid.
