Where Are All The New Christmas Albums?

Doesn’t anybody make ‘Christmas Albums’ anymore? Where are you Adele, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran? Back in ancient days there was an Elvis Christmas Album and even earlier in pre-history there were great albums from Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. Only in the USA do they still take this genre seriously, although for some daft reason they call them HOLIDAY albums and not CHRISTMAS albums.

I can’t for the life of me imagine taking my Mariah Carey Merry Christmas to my deck chair on the beach at Benidorm.  That said, none of today’s mega stars are making the obliglatory Xmas fest collection. So what are we left with when you have played The excellent Beach Boys Christmas Album and the cracker (nice pun: ED) from the Jackson Five? In recent years there have been two worthy contenders for Best Christmas Album with Aimee Mann’s One More Drifter In The Snow and Sufjan Steven’s nice little Christmas Box Set (lose the puns: ED).

Even Justin Beiber’s Under The Misletoe has not yet taken the world by storm. Take a look at the current listings and there is really only one album you will ever need. It really is the best Christmas album ever ever ever. And when your parents say it is their favourite, believe them, for once they are absolutely right!

It’s Phil Spector’s A Christmas Gift For You, and nothing has or ever will come near it. Trust me.
