Bookmakers Give Early Odds On Mercury Prize!

Although the official shortlist of nominations for this years Mercury Prize will not be known until DJ Lauren Laverne reveals them on BBC 6Music today (16th October), British bookmakers are already taking odds on the likely winner!

According to Ladbrokes, Everything Everything’s Get To Heaven is favourite at 4/1 while In Colour by Jamie xx and Marks To Prove It by The Maccabees are 7/1 and 8/1 respectively.

The award. originally known as the Mercury Music Prize was first given to Primal Scream‘s Screamadelica in 1992 with other previous winners including Portishead’s Dummy, Pulp’s Different Class, Dizzee Rascal’s Boy In Da Corner, James Blake’s Overgrown and Young Fathers’ Dead. PJ Harvey is the only artist so far to have won twice with Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea in 2001 and Let England Shake in 2011.

Others potential nominees given odds to win this year are Sleaford Mods, Richard Dawson, Wolf Alice, Nadine Shah, Ghostpoet, Jane Weaver, LoneLady, Foals, Florence + The Machine, Young Fathers, Soak, Slaves, Dutch Uncles, LA Priest, Richard Hawley and Alt-J.

The ultimate prize winner will be announced on November 20th.
